MOONCRYS / Guide
Crystal care: cleansing & everyday maintenance
Natural crystal jewelry needs little maintenance: cleanse a new piece when it arrives, keep it out of harsh sun and chemicals, and wipe it gently after wear. Everything below is material care — we make no claims about effects.
Three common cleansing methods
There are three widely used ways to cleanse crystal jewelry. Moonlight: leave the piece where moonlight reaches it overnight, then wear as usual. White crystal gravel: bury the piece in dry white crystal gravel for a few hours. Running water: rinse briefly under clean running water, then pat completely dry with a soft cloth. A new piece can be cleansed once before first wear; afterwards, cleanse whenever you feel like it — there is no required schedule.
Stones that dislike strong sun
Some stones fade with prolonged direct sunlight. Amethyst and rose quartz are the best-known examples — their color can pale after long, repeated sun exposure. If you wear these daily, store them away from windowsills and sunny dashboards. Moonstone, clear quartz and most other stones we carry are less sensitive, but shade is always the safer habit.
925 silver findings care
Many of our jewelry pieces use 925 sterling silver findings. If the silver darkens, that is normal oxidation, not a defect — polish gently with a silver cloth and it brightens again. Keep silver pieces dry and store them in the pouch they arrived in.
Everyday habits
Remove crystal bracelets for sports, swimming and heavy housework. Store each piece separately so harder stones cannot scratch softer ones. Perfume, cosmetics and household chemicals go on skin first, jewelry second. Slight color and pattern variation between natural stones is normal — no two pieces are exactly alike.
Frequently asked questions
How do I cleanse my crystal bracelet?
The three common methods are moonlight overnight, a few hours buried in white crystal gravel, or a brief rinse under running water followed by thorough drying. Pick whichever suits the stone — avoid water for soft or porous stones.
How long should moonlight cleansing take?
Overnight is the usual practice: leave the piece where moonlight reaches it in the evening and collect it in the morning. There is no required frequency.
Can I use water on all crystals?
No. Most of our bracelet stones tolerate a brief rinse, but soft, porous or glued pieces should stay dry. When in doubt, use moonlight or white crystal gravel instead, and always dry the piece completely afterwards.
Will sunlight damage my amethyst?
Prolonged direct sunlight can fade amethyst and rose quartz over time. Store them away from sunny windowsills and dashboards; everyday outdoor wear is fine, constant baking is not.
How do I clean 925 silver parts that turned dark?
That is normal silver oxidation. Polish gently with a silver polishing cloth until it brightens. Keep silver dry and stored in its pouch between wears.
