MOONCRYS / Guide
Best crystals for beginners
Start with four familiar stones: amethyst, rose quartz, clear quartz, and citrine. Each has centuries of cultural lore behind it, each is widely available and affordable, and each is easy to care for. Below is what each stone is known for — in lore, not as medical claims.
Amethyst
What it is: purple quartz, ranging from pale lilac to deep violet. In crystal lore it is associated with calm and restful spaces — traditionally kept by the bedside or worn in the evening. Care: keep out of prolonged direct sun (the purple can fade). Our collection includes amethyst bracelets and pendants; look for even color without white patches.
Rose quartz
What it is: soft pink quartz. In crystal lore it is linked with love and friendship — the traditional gift stone for close relationships. Care: like amethyst, it fades with long sun exposure; store away from windowsills. A rose quartz bracelet is the most-gifted beginner piece in our shop.
Clear quartz
What it is: colorless, glassy quartz — the most common crystal on earth. In crystal lore it is treated as the versatile all-rounder, often recommended as a first stone because it goes with everything. Care: the easiest of the four — rinse, dry, done. Clear quartz bracelets suit daily wear.
Citrine
What it is: warm yellow to golden quartz (much shop citrine is heat-treated amethyst — a standard, disclosed practice). In crystal lore it is associated with warmth and autumn light. Care: normal care, no special needs. Citrine's sunny color makes it a popular gift choice.
How to pick your first piece
Go by color. Seriously — for a first crystal, the one you keep reaching for is the right one. Then check three practical things: size (8mm beads are the standard bracelet; smaller beads suit slimmer wrists), price (beginner bracelets in our shop run $20–$60), and care (all four stones above need only basic care). Avoid sellers making medical or supernatural promises — see our guide on whether crystals work.
Frequently asked questions
Which crystal should I start with?
Amethyst, rose quartz, clear quartz or citrine — all four are affordable, easy to care for, and widely available. Pick the color you like best; personal taste matters more than any guide for a first piece.
How much should a beginner crystal bracelet cost?
In our shop, beginner-friendly bracelets run $20–$60. Very cheap pieces may be dyed glass; very expensive ones are for collectors. The mid-range is the sweet spot for a first buy.
Do I need to cleanse my first crystal?
It is customary to cleanse a new piece once — moonlight overnight is the simplest method. See our cleansing guide for the full options.
Can I wear crystal bracelets every day?
Yes. Remove them for sports, swimming and housework, keep them away from perfume and chemicals, and store each piece separately.
Is citrine natural or heated?
Most citrine on the market, including ours where applicable, is heat-treated amethyst — a standard and disclosed practice in the trade. The warm yellow color is what you are buying; the treatment does not affect wear.
